Brown chana or chickpeas are one of the earliest cultivated legumes, and 7500-year-old remains have been found in the Middle East. It is used extensively in Indian, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine. They are grown mostly in India and other parts of the Indian subcontinent, as well as Ethiopia, Mexico, Iran, the Mediterranean, Southern Europe, N.Africa, and S.America. Chickpeas contain a range of nutrients, including protein, which is necessary for bone, muscle, and skin health. Chickpeas contain a moderate amount of calories and several vitamins and minerals. They’re also a good source of fiber and protein. This plays a role in weight management. Chickpeas have a low GI and support healthy blood sugar control. Presence of some nutrients like folates, fiber, protein, carbohydrates, copper, iron and phosphorus in black chickpeas helps in curing many common skin diseases.
