Pumpkin seeds are also known as "pepita" — a Mexican Spanish term. Pumpkin seeds bought over the shelf don't have a shell. They are flat and oval and can be eaten raw. Pumpkin seeds are a great source of protein and unsaturated fats, including omega-3. They contain a good range of nutrients including iron, selenium, calcium, B vitamins and beta-carotene, which the body converts into vitamin A. Consuming pumpkin seeds regularly promotes heart health, prostate health and protection against certain cancers. Pumpkin seeds can be roasted and consumed in different flavours for snacking.
